Real-time monitoring of fenitrothion in water samples using a silicon nanophotonic biosensor

Due to the large quantities of pesticides extensively used and their impact on environment human health, a prompt reliable sensing technique could constitute an excellent tool for in-situ monitoring. With this aim, we have applied highly sensitive photonic biosensor based bimodal waveguide interferometer (BiMW) rapid, label-free, specific quantification fenitrothion (FN) directly in tap water samples. After optimization protocol, achieved limit detection (LOD) 0.29 ng mL−1 (1.05 nM) half-maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) 1.71 (6.09 using competitive immunoassay employing diluted water. Moreover, was successfully employed determine FN blind samples obtaining recovery percentages with time-to-result only 20 min without any sample pre-treatment. The features suggest its potential application real time, fast screening as analytical monitoring quality.
